Why should a business be on social media?

Connecting with your customers

Businesses today have many options for connecting with their customers, but one of the most powerful is through social media. Around 4.5 billion people around the globe are actively on social media. In Canada that number is 9 in 10 adults with at least one social media account (if not more). As a business, this is a goldmine allowing you to have direct conversations with your customers. Of course, this lets you get valuable feedback from your base while also letting you respond in a timely manner too. This personal touch means your customers keep coming back, and make sure to recommend your business to friends too. However, without a strategy in place, social media efforts can come across as disjointed and ineffective. Creating, growing, and managing the relationship with your customers through social media is the art that is social media marketing.

Brand awareness

When businesses have a social media presence, they’re able to reach a large number of people on the internet. Using platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, you can promote your brand, your mission, and your products. The advantage here is that it can be used to generate a large online fanbase. You essentially build a community around your business. This kind of connection between customer and business is a primary driver for customer loyalty. This lets you build a large large customer base and increase the reach of your business. In turn, customers feel a genuine connection within your community and can’t help but spread the news.

Trust matters

Building trust is one of the most important things you can do as a small business owner. Your brand is the first thing potential customers will notice about your business. Word of mouth has a huge reach, and on social media it travels at the speed of light. When you connect with your customers on social media you build trust. This trust goes a long way considering a number of different cases.

  • Your customers are always up to date with the progress of your business
  • Updates to your customers come directly from the business instead of untrustworthy sources
  • You are in complete control of your brand’s reputation
Authenticity

When you think of a brand, you think of a logo or a catchphrase. But sometimes brands can be more – they can be a promise. It’s important to customers that they feel they are involved with a brand that is genuine. That their experience is special, and their involvement with the brand comes straight from the source, not some distanced ad. For many businesses it’s important to convey their story, goals, and products in a way that makes sense for their customers. Branding is about creating a unique experience for your customers and through social media, an authentic brand is more important than ever before. When you think of Nike or Apple, there is a promise of quality and excellence that comes along. All of this is a part of brand authenticity, and at DesignPad, we help our clients make good on those promises.
